2026 Indian Premier League Begins Today!

The 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to begin today, on March 28th! This is the 18th edition of this esteemed Premier League, which is organised annually by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This year, 10 teams will compete against one another in 74 total matches to win the grand title, with the finale taking place on May 31st! 

The first match of the 2026 IPL will be played between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SH) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This year, Royal Challengers Bangalore is returning as the defending champions, as they won their first IPL trophy in the 2025 season. 

This year, there won’t be an opening ceremony to celebrate this grand tournament, as announced by the BCCI. The second match of the season will take place between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on March 29th, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
